Jaipur: Man held for making hoax bomb threat call

A day after an unidentified man called the police control room and informed about three bombs being planted in the city, the police arrested the man for making the hoax calls and creating a panic situation in the city. The development was more serious as the threat came ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Ashok Gehlot as Rajasthan chief minister.

After the call was received, the cops initiated a massive drive to check the places mentioned where the bombs were said to have been planted. “Extensive efforts were made to find out the said bombs at Hanuman Temple at Chandpole, Sanganer Gate and at the Jaipur Airport. The Anti-Terrorism Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad, Sniffer Dog Squad and several teams of Jaipur police searched the areas but the search did not reveal any bomb. Security was beefed-up and traffic was diverted. It was then we realised that the call was a hoax and immediately a search for the caller was initiated,” officials said.

When the cops tried to call back on the number from which the call had come, the number was switched off. 

“However, later on the basis of the phone number, one person was identified and detained. At first, the man kept claiming that he had not made the call and that his phone had been stolen a few months back. However, on strictly questioning, he confessed to making the call. He was identified as one Yogendra Kumar, a rickshaw puller,” officials said.

Kumar then divulged as to why did he make the call. “He claimed that he was in a dispute with his brothers over property and he wanted to get them fixed in this fashion so that he can sell off the property without any dispute. Further action in the matter is being taken,” officials said.
