Jofra Archer was in fine form in the recently concluded England vs Australia series, taking seven wickets in the three ODIs which the hosts lost 1-2. Archer bowled with pace and hostility and he was a handful for the top order. In the second ODI, Archer picked up three wickets and was named Man of the Match as England managed to level the series. Following the end of the series, Archer will be part of the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2020 and the team’s head coach Andrew McDonald said his form in limited overs cricket was exciting.

“He (Jofra Archer) lights it up, doesn’t he? There’s moments in games where he senses it and he goes for it. He’s exciting; you never know what you’re going get with great fast bowlers and although he’s got a long way to go to be in that sort of conversation, he’s stepping his way towards that, isn’t he?,” McDonald said.

No quarantine relaxation

However, with the UAE not relaxing their quarantine for the England and Australia players, there is a big possibility that Archer and the likes of Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes might not be available for the opening game of IPL 2020 for the Rajasthan Royals. There is a big question mark over the status of Ben Stokes, who is currently in New Zealand due to his father’s ill health.

Rajasthan Royals open their campaign on September 23 against Chennai Super Kings but with the six-day quarantine in place, Archer, Buttler and Smith might not be able to play in their opening game.

Rajasthan Royals will be gunning to produce a good performance in IPL 2020 after they finished seventh in IPL 2019. They made a strong comeback in IPL 2018 after been suspended for two years due to the spot-fixing scandal as they reached the Eliminator round. Rajasthan Royals are the winners of the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 and under Steve Smith in 2020, they will be hoping for a repeat.
