Rains lash Jammu and Kashmir, temperature further dips

More rainfall is likely to take place in the next few hours in most of the parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in mountainous belts of the state.

Moderate to heavy rains today lashed mountainous and plains of Jammu and Kashmir with temperature witnessing a further dip in the region.

The highest rainfall of 24.6 mm was recorded at Kupwara district of north Kashmir followed by 16.6 mm rainfall at Pahalgam resort (Anantnag), 13.2 mm at Gulmargh skii resort (Baramulla), 12.7 mm at Kokernag (Anantnag), 8.4 mm at Qazigund (Kulgam) and 4.9 mm in Srinagar in Kashmir valley, a Meteorological department officials said.

There was also a dip in the minimum temperature in Srinagar from 13 degree Celsius to 12.2 deg C, he said, adding that Jammu recorded a fall of six degrees in its minimum temperature from 27.8 to 21.7 degrees Celsius today.

In the plains of Jammu, there was less rainfall recorded as compared to Kashmir valley, he said, adding that 4.2 mm rainfall was recorded at Jammu, followed by 9.1 at Banihal (Ramban), 10 mm at Batote (Ramban), 2.4 mm at Katra (Reasi), 5.4 mm at Bhaderwah (Doda), 9.4 mm in Kishtwar and 9.6 mm at Poonch.

However, in Ladakh region, Leh witnessed only 1.4 mm of rainfall and no rainfall was recorded in Kargil district, they said.

More rainfall is likely to take place in the next few hours in most of the parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in mountainous belts of the state, he said.
