Who is Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari? Know all about the next Chief of Indian Air Force

The Ministry of Defence announced yesterday that Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari will be the next Chief of the Indian Air Force. He will take over the post after the current Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria retires from the post on September 30, 2021.

Currently, Air Marshal Chaudhari is serving as the Vice Chief of Air Staff and will take over the top post in the Indian Air Force after the end of this month. The Ministry of Defence made the announcement regarding his appointment on Tuesday.

In its official statement, the ministry said, “The government has decided to appoint Air Marshal V R Chaudhari, present Vice Chief of Air Staff, as the next Chief of Air Staff after the retirement of Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on September 30.”

Who is new Chief of Air Staff Vivek Ram Chaudhari?

Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari was appointed the Vice Chief of Air Staff, the second higher post in the Air Force, on July 1 this year. He has held command, staff and instructional appointments at various levels before this post.

He was also serving as the commander-in-chief of the Western Air Command (WAC), which oversees the security of the airspace in the Ladakh sector and other north Indian parts, before becoming the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force.

Air Marshal Chaudhari joined the fighter stream of the IAF on December 29, 1982, after graduating from the National Defence Academy (NDA). Throughout the span of his distinguished career, Air Marshal V R Chaudhari has gained experience in flying a wide variety of fighters and aircrafts available in the AIF.

His flight experience tallying to over 3,800 hours in total, he has flown aircraft like MiG-21, MiG-23 MF, MiG 29 and Su-30 MKI fighter jets. He also has experience in being the commanding officer of a frontline fighter squadron and frontline fighter base.

After he is appointed the Chief of Air Staff after September 30, Air Marshal Chaudhari will be responsible for taking care of several operational issues in the Indian Air Force, and will also have to address matters related to the new theaterisation model of the armed forces in India.
