Such is the state of education system in Bengal: Babul Supriyo fumes after being heckled by students at Jadavpur varsity

The Union Minister had visited the University after he was invited by ABVP students to attend a seminar.

Union Minister and Bengal BJP MP Babul Supriyo was allegedly manhandled at the Jadavpur University by a group of students belonging to the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Association (AISA) in Kolkata on Thursday.

The Union Minister had visited the University after he was invited by ABVP students to attend a seminar. However, upon reaching there, the left-wing students protested against his visit.

Babul Supriyo was accompanied by designer-turned-BJP leader Agnimitra Paul. But while entering the college campus, they were stopped by a group of protesting students, who raised slogans against them, asking them to 'go back'. The also showed him flags of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Association (AISA).

Making a statement after facing a massive protest at the Jadavpur University, Babul Supriyo said that he was kicked, thrashed by the students of the University which is totally unacceptable. The minister also said that students try to pull his hair and severely assault him.

Further adding to his statement while speaking to reporters, Babul Supriyo said that if students had any problem, they should have had discussed it with me. But this behavior is totally uncalled for. They cannot stop me from going anywhere. Hitting out at the state government, Supriyo said such is the state of the education system in West Bengal."

Meanwhile, the Left-wing students said that BJP people were not allowed inside the Jadavpur University campus, however, Supriyo said that since he was a Union Minister, therefore, had the right to go anywhere.

After being heckled by the university students, Babul Supriyo entered into an argument with them and refused to leave the campus.

Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das tried to intervene and requested the students to let the Union Minister get inside the JU, but, the students refused to listen to his plea.

In between, the V-C rescued the minister and took him inside the campus. The students were stopped entering the V-C's office after which they began sloganeering again.

The V-C later complained of ill health and was taken to a hospital. Paul also faced the demonstration. Later, the students blocked Supriyo's way again when he tried to leave the campus. He was again attacked, his spectacles fell off, and his shirt was torn.

Later during the day, ABVP supporters resorted to vandalism inside the campus.

Taking into account the continued violence and alleged assault on Union Minister Babul Supriyo at Jadavpur University, the ABVP is set to launch a nationwide contact programme to expose the violent face of the Left and Trinamool Congress politics.

Along with this, ABVP in a counter-attack on the TMC stated that the Governor doesn't need permission to enter any college or university as he is the chancellor of universities. The student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will initiate the debate on continued political violence against its cadres on campuses across the country.
