Nasreen stokes controversy.
India faced Pakistan in Asia Cup T20 on Saturday and thanks to Virat Kohli's stellar knock, won by 5 wickets. The match was played at the Sher- E- Bangla stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh and there was almost equal support for both teams. One person who was angered by this, seemed to be controversial author Taslima Nasreen, compared Bangladeshis supporting Pakistan against India to a 'rape victim supporting her racist'. She wrote on Twitter: "Supporting Pakistan or India? Bangladesh supporting Pakistan is like a rape victim supporting her rapist.I am curious to know what Bangladeshi people are doing. "
In a FB post, the author who left her motherland long time back owing to threats from religious fundamentalists asked whether people cheering for Pakistan were appreciating Pakistan's cricketing prowess or supporting the team because it was Pakistan. For those who are supporting Pakistan for 'non- sporting' reasons, Taslima asked why they are not supporting the country that helped Bangladesh get independence in 1971.
Taslima goes on to say that she doesn't intend to mix politics with sports but asks if the wounds of the brutal 1971 war had healed yet. She says that in the 1971 war, thirty lakh people were killed, two lakh girls were raped. 'Lajja' author says that while Pakistani common men or cricketers are not guilty, but are those people apologetic about the misdeed of their armed forces?
In the FB post, author who got asylum in India asks how can average Bangladeshis support Pakistan or says Pakistan Zindabad in such a nonchalant way without getting bothered. She signs off by saying such victory celebrations feel like a raped women cheering for her rapist.
