Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who had levelled allegations against CBI Director Ranjit Sinha over his meeting people involved in the 2G scam in the Supreme Court, has refused reveal the whistleblower's name citing danger to the source's life. "In the 2G matter where the SC had asked me to disclose the names of the whistleblowers who had given me the information relating to the file noting in the CBI files as well as regarding the entry register of the CBI director. There was a meeting of the governing body of the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), in which it was decided that the names of the whistleblowers cannot be disclosed," said Bhushan.
"This decision has been taken keeping in mind the fact that revealing the names of whistleblowers in India has led to serious reprisals, including murder of several whistleblowers. Moreover, the disclosure of the name is not necessary ascertain the truth in this case, and therefore that is the affidavit that has been filed in the court today," he added. Bhushan had alleged in the Supreme Court that Sinha had been meeting people linked to those accused in the 2G case at his residence and Bhushan's allegations were later examined by the apex Court.
On Monday, the Supreme Court had directed Bhushan to disclose the source of his information in the 2G scam case about CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha and had asked him to submit the name and address of the whistle-blower in a sealed envelope. The CBI chief, had later said that 90% of entries in the register are forged while some entries may be genuine. Singh also claimed that Prashant Bhushan is attempting to tarnish the reputation of the CBI by implicating its director.
