Newly appointed state chief secretary Sumit Malik: We will focus on investment, infrastructure and education

The newly appointed Maharashtra chief secretary Sumit Malik said that in his tenure he will focus on the infrastructure development, right to services act implementation and improving the quality of education in state.

The 1982 batch, Mallick was working as additional chief secretary and chief protocol officer. Malik took the charge of the state chief secretary on Tuesday evening. “We will try to bring in major investment in state. The economy of the state is also a major factor. I will look after the areas where the revenue can be increased. Besides, the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be developed as early as possible. The current airport traffic needs to be decongest. We badly need the Navi Mumbai airport that will cater the domestic and international flights. We have got all clearances in place. We will  implement the Navi Mumbai airport project speedily,” Malik said.

“I am getting only 18 months stint however it is sufficient to show the result. Maharashtra is one of the progressive state. We will also focus on the improvement of the quality education. We will invite various innovative ideas from our officials and the best ideas will be implemented,” Malik said.

He also said that the Right to Service Act will be also brought into force in letter and spirit. “Government has set up the separate right to service commission. We are going to review the Key Result Area of the IAS officials. There is scope for the improvement. It will be more performance based. It will participatory and the interactive so that the more innovative ideas will be churned out,” Malik said.

“We have to also prepared with the GST implementation. We want the smooth transition during the GST implementations. Maharashtra is also pioneer state in various projects” he said.

Malik who studied in Kolkata and London has written the couple of fiction books. “I like to write fictions. I am not sure after the taking the charge of the state chief secretary, i will get time to write books or not but i will try to get the time. I have also written the non fiction on the primary education,” he said.
