"NC today filed a complaint against continued violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the local administration at the behest of PDP leaders and asked the Election Commission to take immediate cognizance and action," party's provincial president, Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani, said here.
Wani filed the complaint with the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) on behalf of the party and highlighted how the state government, through various channels, was continuing with the "unfair and compromised process" of recruiting workers and activists of the ruling dispensation as SPOs in Pulwama District (in south Kashmirs Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency) and Kangan Assembly Segment (in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency) in clear violation of the MCC.
Some of these illegal recruitments are being carried out through back-dated orders and we request the Election Commission (EC) to take immediate cognizance and action as per law, the NC provincial president said after filing the complaint.
He said the EC needs to ensure that the MCC is upheld in letter and spirit to ensure free and fair conduct of elections in the state without the misuse and abuse of official funds and machinery.
The party had yesterday filed a complaint highlighting "various developmental works either being identified or taken-up at various places in Chrar-e-Sharief, Budgam, Khan Sahib and Srinagar with the tacit and brazen approval of the local administration and the state government".
