In a sensational claim, gangster Sunil Rathi has claimed that he attacked his rival Munna Bajrangi in Baghpat Jail after latter called him ‘fatty’.

‘He called me ‘fatty’ and then I pumped all bullets on his head,’ Rathi said on Tuesday.

The gangster is accused of killing Munna Bajrangi alias Prem Prakash Singh in Baghpat District jail on Monday morning.

During interrogation, Rathi told police that he was taking a walk when Bajrangi crossed him and mocked at him saying that he was too fat. “I objected to his comment and we both indulged in heated arguments. Suddenly he (Munna Bajrangi) whipped out a pistol on me. I got infuriated and snatched his pistol after kicking him down and pumped all bullets on his head,” Rathi told the police.

Bajrangi was shot from close range. All bullets went past his body. His post mortem report claimed that no bullets were found in his body except for the one which was there inside his body since 1998 when he sustained about nine bullet injuries during an encounter with the police in Delhi.

Already in jail, Rathi was taken into custody soon after the murder of Munna Bajrangi. An FIR was lodged against Rathi by the jai administration. After killing him, Rathi said that he threw the pistol, empty cartridges and magazines into a gutter inside the jail.

The ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar said that the murder weapon .762 bore Pistsl, 10 empty shells, two magazines and 22 live cartridges were later recovered from the gutter.

However, when the investigating team verified his claims from other jail inmates they refuted Rathi’s claims. Jail inmates, who were witness to the murder, claimed that Rathi sprayed bullets on Bajrangi without and provocation or altercation when he was taking a stroll in the garden outside the Isolation Cell. Rathi used his own weapon and did not give Bajrangi a chance to run as he shot all bullets into his head, they told the police.

A senior officer claimed that the murder seems to be well planned by his rivals through Rathi, who was lodged in the Baghpat jail since July 31 last year.

“It was not possible that Bajrangi was carrying any weapon as he was brought from Jhansi to Baghpat jail under tight security. There are doubts that he could have managed a weapon overnight in Baghapt jail. Records show that no one met him on Sunday night,” pointed the official.
