Rajasthan: Minor girl gang-raped in Barmer; case registered

A minor girl was gang-raped in Rajasthan's Barmer district. The accused ran away from the scene of crime leaving the victim unconscious. The minor girl has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment.

Cases of violence with women and daughters are increasing all over the country. Several instances of rape against minors are coming to the fore from various states, prominently Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. One such incident of gang-rape with a minor girl in Rajasthan's Barmer district has come to light.

The minor was kidnapped and gang-raped in a village in the Shiv Police station area. As per sources quoted by Zee News, one of the accused raped the girl and the other clicked photographs of the heinous crime.

The accused then ran away from the scene of crime leaving the victim unconscious. The minor girl has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment.

Barmer police has registered a case under POCSO Act and IT Act and started a probe in the matter. The statement of the victim has been recorded by the police.

IANS in a report by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) revealed that the commission received the highest number of sexual violence complaints from Rajasthan.

NCPCR, which comes under the aegis of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, received as many as 800 complaints of sexual violence against minors during the pandemic, with the highest from Rajasthan, said the chairperson of the statutory body on Tuesday.

He further apprised that 87 complaints were received from Rajasthan, the highest so far, followed by 80 in Tamil Nadu and 72 in Telangana. "The complaints from these states are more or less the same," Kanoongo added.

Recent National Crime Records Bureau data showed a significant rise in cases of crimes against children. In 2019, crimes against children went up by 4.5%.
