Meet visually impaired singer mentioned by PM Modi in 105th episode of 'Mann ki Baat'

Cassandra Mae Spittmann, also known as CassMae, is a 21-year-old visually impaired German singer who was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 105th episode of his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat' on September 24.

Cassandra Mae Spittmann caught the attention of Indians as well as that of PM Modi with her mesmerising renditions of Tamil songs, including devotional tracks on Instagram. 

In his radio address, PM Modi noted, "21-year-old Cassmae is quite popular on Instagram these days. CassMae, a resident of Germany, has never been to India, but she is a fan of Indian music, and has never even seen India. Her interest in Indian music is very inspiring." He also praised her for her "sweet voice" and said, "Through the emotions reflected in every word, we can feel her love for God."

PM Modi shared two of Spittmann's songs – 'Jagat Jaana Palam,' a Sanskrit sloka dedicated to the Lord Vishnu, and a Kannada song. PM Modi added, "I wholeheartedly appreciate Germany’s CassMae’s passion for Indian culture and music. Her efforts are going to overwhelm every Indian."

CassMae started learning African drumming when she was three years old.

She was introduced to Indian music about five-six years ago.

She has also learned how to play the tabla. 

CassMae knows how to sing in many Indian languages, including Sanskrit, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Marathi, and Urdu.
