The Bharatiya Janata Party looks to bag a large chunk of the Assembly bye-election seats in Madhya Pradesh as counting for the 28  seats is underway. According to the trends, the BJP is leading in 20 of these seats.

Celebrations have already begun at the party office in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath said that the decision of the voters is welcome irrespective of win or loss.

'In a democracy, we have to respect the voters' decision. We will wait for the results to be announced and will respectfully accept whatever mandate is given. With great respect we will thank the voters," Kamalnath said.

The BJP is currently leading on 20 seats while the Congress is ahead on 6 seats. The BSP is leading on one seat.

Going by the trends, the BJP is emerging a clear winner which means it will be able to sustain its government in the state.

The by-election in Madhya Pradesh was held because 22 sitting MLAs of the former Congress government joined the BJP in March 2020, under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia causing the 15-month-old Kamal Nath government to fall.

Soon, three other Congress MLAs joined the BJP which increased the tally to 25. The remaining three seats were vacant due to the death of incumbent MLAs.
