Justice CS Karnan once again lashed out at the judiciary on Saturday saying that the system was ‘corrupt’ and that the bailable arrest warrant issued against him was because of the personal gain of the seven judges on the Supreme Court bench.

“I had levelled allegations ranging from corruption to rape against 20 judges. None of them came back to me. Why did the Supreme Court file suo motu contempt of court charges against me? The seven judges, for their personal gain, made a constitution bench,” he said interacting with the media. He added that he would not appear before the court on March 31 as directed by the SC. “There is no provision in law under which a non-bailable warrant can be issued against a sitting High Court judge. So I don’t need to cooperate with the order,” he said.

Justice Karnan said that he was targeted because he had chosen to speak up against the corrupt practices of the judges. He read out letters which he had written in February 2014, complaining against Justice V Dhanapalan of Madras High Court, alleging that the judge had forged his law degrees to get the required qualifications. In the same month, he had also written against Justice S Manikumar, alleging that he had committed a custodial rape of a law intern. “Why is the Supreme Court silent about the complaints and no action has been taken? I am not a layman. Why has the complaint by a sitting judge been ignored,” he asked.

He also said that he had remained silent so far but had now consented to reveal the allegations along with supporting documents because he was being harassed.

Justice Karnan would be retiring in mid-2017, and when asked if he was preparing his ground to enter politics after that, he said, “Don’t pull me into politics. After retirement, I will do social service.”
