H1N1 kills one in Punjab; Rajasthan reports 17 fresh cases

Swine flu today claimed one life in Punjab taking the death toll from the disease in the state to four this month, even as 17 fresh cases of H1N1 infection were reported in Rajasthan.
 
Gurmeet Singh, 43, a resident of Chandigarh, died of swine flu today at a private hospital in Mohali, state's nodal officer Dr Deepak Bhatia said.
 
Four persons have lost their lives due to the deadly infection in the state.
 
Out of the total 39 suspected cases, six tested positive and are being treated at various hospitals, he said.
 
Meanwhile, 17 people were tested positive for swine flu in Rajasthan, taking the total number of H1N1 positive cases in the state to 145 since April.
 
"The positive cases were reported from Jaipur, Alwar, Udaipur, Karauli, Dausa and Chittorgarh. The patients are being treated," OP Gupta, director (public health), state medical and health department, said.
 
Eleven people have so far succumbed to the viral infection since April, he said.
