Breaching the laws of jurisdiction of the police station areas, a team of Nadiad police raided a gambling den in Ambli which comes under the authority of Bopal police station.

Senior IPS officer Ashish Bhatia told DNA that this was done as the Bopal police was not acting despite several complaints about the gambling den. The Nadiad police raided the gambling den on Tuesday night. "The unusual breach of police jurisdiction was carried out knowingly since the concerned police station officials did not heed to the complaints by the residents," Inspector General, Ahmedabad Range, Ashish Bhatia told DNA.

When asked about the raid and the nexus between the gamblers and the cops, Bhatia, who led the raid, said that the police team from Nadiad was called since the concerned police were not doing anything to stop the illegal activity.

"There were lots of complaints coming from Ambli, Bopal and nearby areas and that was the reason I had to call up Nadiad police," said Bhatia. According to sources, there are dozens of gambling dens being run in Ahmedabad Rural areas, especially in Sarkhej Bopal and Sanand.

The den was reportedly run by one Naginbhai. Police arrested 15 people along with Rs65,000 cash and many vehicles. It was one of the oldest gambling dens in Bopal area, and had been running under the shelter of many local police officials.
