Special public prosecutor in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case Ujjwal Nikam today said that death sentences awarded by the Supreme Court should be implemented within a fixed time-frame.

Similarly, there should be a time-limit for disposal of mercy petitions pending before the president, Nikam, who was in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh on a visit, told reporters.

He said there was a need for reforms in the system to cut down delays in implementing death sentences.

"A mercy petition which is sent to the president should be disposed off within three months and in case this does not happen, the death sentence should be executed," Nikam opined.
