The Indian Army on Monday debunked "fake and malicious" messages that are being circulated all across social media about a likely declaration of 'Emergency' in mid-April and deployment of officials to assist civil administration. The Army clarified that the message is "absolutely fake" and no such thing has been planned.

"Fake and malicious messages are circulating on social media about likely declaration of emergency in mid-April and deployment of Indian Army, veterans, National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme to assist the civil administration. It's clarified that this is absolutely fake," the Army stated.

Earlier, too, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information under the Indian Army and the Ministry of Defence busted the fake news circulating on social media. Last week, the army clarified on Twitter news of the Indian Army establishing a 1000-bed quarantine facility in Barmer for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) affected patients was fake. This input is not true, the army clarified on March 23, adding that the only functioning quarantine facilities of the Indian Army are the ones at Manesar and Jaisalmer.

In light of the heightened concern on the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in India, the country has been placed under complete lockdown for 21 days. Authorities have asked citizens to maintain strict social distancing to cut the spread of the virus outbreak.

The virus has affected over 7.4 lakh people worldwide. The global death toll has crossed 35,000, according to the COVID-19 statistics center at the John Hopkins University.
