A terror attack carried out in six different places in Vienna on Monday, November 2 claimed 4 lives while 15 people were injured. The toll is likely to rise further. It is assumed that more than one person was involved in carrying out the terror attack. Police have so far made four arrests in the case.

The government of Austria has termed it as an Islamic terror attack for the reason that a Jewish place of worship was one of the targets. The attacker whose pictures are viral on the social media platforms was seen spraying bullets on people in the open including policemen.

A similar attack was witnessed in France's Nice city last week in which three people had died. The modus operandi in both these attacks has been radicalism. The attack in Vienna has been condemned by world leaders across the globe. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the attack and extended support to Austria.

French President Emmanuel Macron, 42 and Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, 34 are two young leaders who now have the responsibility of fighting Islamic radicalism in Europe. In fact countries like the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Canada and the European Union have come out in support of both the countries.

The Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu went on to the extent of saying that the world must unite against radical Islam.

The 20-year-old suspect Kuztim Fezulai had some time back tried to join the ISIS in Syria for which he had to spend 22 months in prison. But because he was a minor, he was released from jail and carried out the terror attack in the Austrian capital Vienna.

Releasing an ideologically radicalised person due to his age has cost the whole of Austria dear.

In France, the terrorists who carried out the attack were refugees while in Austria the terrorist was looking to join the ISIS.

Notably, Austria was the first country in Europe to allow Syrian refugees after a war had broken out in the country. The people of Austria had organised huge rallies in support of the refugees. Today Austria is paying a price for it. A huge section of the world society believes that Austria, Germany and France are bearing the brunt of their generosity.

Many of the western countries don't give much heed to such terror attacks in countries like India. They brush it aside saying that the attacks are a result of the subjugation of a particular minority. However, these countries today have realised the danger the world is facing from radical Islam.

Finally, France has woken up to the threats and French President Emmanuel Macron is taking steps against radical Islam in the country. Keeping in line with its efforts, France fighter jets Mirage 2000 on Friday, October 30 carried out airstrikes on Mali and killed 50 terrorists of the Al-Qaeda group.

Almost a similar attack was carried out by the Indian Air Force on terror camps in Pakistan's Balakot after the 2019 Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF jawans were martyred.

Meanwhile, investigations are on to know the reason behind the terror attack in Austria. But if analysts are to be believed radical Islam is the reason behind the terror attacks in both France and Vienna.

Currently, there are four major religions in the world- Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. About 31 per cent of the world population is Christian while 25 per cent are Muslims. Hindus and Buddhists are 15 and 7 per cent, respectively.

There are 57 countries in the world where Muslims are in majority. Amongst these countries, only a few have a democratic government. Although they are also not as vibrant and strong as they should be. In fact, there is not a single Muslim majority country that can be called democratic in real sense. Malaysia and Indonesia are democratic countries but radical Islam is fast taking roots.

The democracy that exists in countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Bangladesh and Nigeria is a Hybrid Democracy - an amalgamation of Islamic rule and democracy. While in Iran the government is close to being a dictator.

If we talk of Europe, France with 9 per cent Muslim population is top of the ladder followed by Austria with 8 per cent population. The United Kingdom is placed third with 6 per cent Muslim population.

Between 2010 and 2016 the Muslim population in Europe has increased by 29 lakh. The rise in population is due to the influx of refugees. According to an estimate close to 34 lakh, Muslim refugees entered Europe during this period.

The people of Austria today have faced the repercussions of welcoming refugees in their country.

On the other hand, Poland despite being under pressure denied accommodating Islamic refugees. Probably this is why there has not been a single terror attack in the country for a very long time.

There is a lot to learn from Hinduism. There was a time when malpractices like Sati and child marriage existed in our society but they were abolished by social reformers who are not criticised but given high respect in the country today.
