Congress takes jibe at BJP govt, GDP

Attacking the PM Modi government on the falling rupee and rising fuel prices, the Congress on Saturday said that the numbers projected by the government on Friday about the 8.2 per cent GDP growth of the first quarter of 2018-19 was based on the growth of 2017-18 when the GDP was at its lowest of 5.6 per cent.

"Today the price of petrol is all-time high in all major cities of the country, where diesel is sold at Rs 75. Yesterday, the Modi government said that it was because of the increase in the price of gas by Rs 30.50. A non-subsidised cylinder is sold for Rs 1401.50. This is the New India where the middle class is reeling under price rise," said Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh.

He added that the rupee is falling everyday and that it is the weakest in Asia. He said that finance minister Arun Jaitley has taken charge of another new ministry, the ministry of blog-writing.

"The statistic that matters is the growth of NPAs has touched Rs 2.5 lakh crore, the reason behind which is the failure of the Modi government's economic policies. There is no visible industrial development and the MSME sector has not been able to revive exports after the blow of demonetization," said Vallabh.
