Colonel to face court-martial for false transport bill claims

An army colonel is being court-martialled for allegedly producing false bills to claim Rs400 every month as transport allowance.

Colonel VK Sehgal, an artillery officer, was indicted by a Court of Inquiry (CoI) for producing "fake" bills of Rs400 every month to claim allowance for transportation between his office and residence in Jodhpur, army sources told PTI in New Delhi.

If the distance between residence and office is more than 1km, officers are entitled to claim transport allowance if they are using their personal vehicle.

It was found that the officer was using official vehicle but still producing and claiming these "false" bills for a sum of Rs400 per month, the sources claimed.

After the implementation of Sixth Pay Commission report, Colonels are put in the pay band-4 and draw more than Rs60,000 per month as salary.

The General Court Martial (GCM) of the officer would be held at Jodhpur and will be presided over by a Brigadier-rank officer, the sources said.
