Boisar fire: Police likely to book Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health for violating norms

The Boisar police is likely to book officials of the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health after a BARC fire in the area killed three people and injured 20 others. Earlier, the police booked the BARC fire officer for violating disaster management norms.

On Thursday night, a series of explosions in six industrial units of Tarapur MIDC led to tremors that were felt up to 12 kilometres away after the fire gutted six chemical industries in Tarapur MIDC.

Dr. Prashant Narnaware, Palghar Collector, said, "It cannot be denied that the DISH officials have failed to perform their duties. A show cause notice has been issued to them and they have been asked to submit their say into the matter. The inspection of the industrial units for safety has not been conducted diligently which led to the major fire."

SG Dhawad, Joint Director, DISH (Vasai), said, "We are filing our report to the collector and if the police files the case against us we will respond to it in the court of law." Dhawad refused to comment further on the issue.

Prakash Birajdar, Police Inspector of Boisar police station, said, "We cannot rule out the possibility of the DISH officials being found negligent in the investigations. We are waiting for the DISH officials to submit their report for registering the First Information Report."
