The national capital of Delhi has been dressed to the nines ahead of the much anticipated G20 Summit, which will see world leaders from the 20 most powerful countries convening in India to discuss global issues, pertaining to environment, defence and conflicts.

The spotlight remains on New Delhi and the Modi government as rigorous restrictions have been put into place for the G20 Summit, with global leaders like US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau set to land in India tomorrow.

The grand welcome for all the delegations has been planned, including a personal touch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the Union Ministers of India. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming G20 Summit and what it means for India.

What is G20? Know its theme

The G20 is the ‘group of 20’ which consists of 19 countries and the European Union (EU). The list of members of the G20 include - Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, the United States and European Union (EU).

The entire G20 Summit members account for the majority of the world’s population and over 85 percent of the world’s GDP, as well as the 75 percent of the global trade.

According to the official website of G20 Summit India, this year’s theme of the global summit is - Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One Earth, One Family, One Future – which is derived from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad.

The prime focus of the G20 Summit discussions between India and other countries will be women-led development, the advancement of the SDGs, and technological development around the global impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.

India turned the host of the 18th G20 Summit, which has turned the global spotlight on the country. Delhi has gotten a facelift to welcome the delegates from all the 20 countries, with major global issues set to be discussed.

The G20 Summit has made India stand out of the crowd, attaining a global position of recognition and power which it had never achieved before. As per the Modi government, hosting the G20 summit is a display of India’s global position and how it is on the right path to become the next superpower.
