As speculations around the next James Bond grow, Daniel Craig has noted that ‘there should simply be better roles for women’.
Daniel Craig will be bidding goodbye to the James Bond universe as he will wear the hat of 007 agent for the last time in ‘No Time To Die’. The actor has been a part of the franchise since 2006 and has played James Bond in five movies. Now, ahead of the release of his final film which premieres next Tuesday, Craig noted that ‘there should simply be better roles for women’.
In an interview with Radio Times, the actor said that women ‘deserve their own parts that are just as good’. He added, “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour.”
'Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” Craig quipped.
In ‘No Time to Die’ British actress Lashana Lynch will take over Bond’s 007 role which has resulted in speculations that the next special agent in the franchise might be a woman.
Lynch had last year confirmed that she will step into the shoes of 007 and had also revealed that she faced online abuse when the rumours first surfaced earlier in 2020.
While speaking to the Guardian, she said of Bond’s casting, “With Bond, it could be a man or woman. They could be white, black, Asian, mixed race. They could be young or old. At the end of the day, even if a two-year-old was playing Bond, everyone would flock to the cinema to see what this two-year-old’s gonna do, no?”
In 2020, Barbara Broccoli, producer of the James Bond film series told Variety, “James Bond can be of any colour, but he is male.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Craig was flooded with emotions when he bid adieu to his character at the wrap-up for ‘No Time to Die’. A farewell video was recently revealed by Apple TV plus documentary ‘Being James Bond’, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the clip, the veteran actor held back tears and was seen telling the crew of his upcoming film ‘No Time to Die’ that he loved every moment of being the character (James Bond) and working with all of them.
Daniel starred in a total of five movies playing James Bond. The journey started when he took over the 007 mantles in 2006’s ‘Casino Royale’, which was followed by 2008’s ‘Quantum of Solace’, 2012 ‘Skyfall', and 2015’s ‘Spectre’ and the upcoming ‘No Time to Die’.
