Actor-filmmaker Sunny Deol seems to be a firm believer in the adage ‘Forgive, but don’t forget’. Therefore, when actor Karisma Kapoor apparently showed interest in being a part of film Ghayal 2, he did not take up on the offer. He has apparently not forgotten the slight he had been subjected to years ago.
Recalls a source, “In 1998, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha and Sunny Deol were working on a movie to be produced by the latter. Gurinder was to helm the project in which they had signed Karisma opposite Sunny. However, the two (Gurinder and Sunny) did not agree on certain points and the filmmaker said that she would step down as the director if she was not given creative freedom. Sunny let her go.”
The source further elaborated, “Sunny had already invested a lot of money and he did not want to shelve the film. Since all the dates and the locales were finalised and technicians were hired, cancelling the shoot would have meant a huge loss. It was then that his actor-brother Bobby (also a part of the film) suggested that Sunny direct the movie.
Lolo took over as the director, but was in for another shock. “Karisma said she is not interested in the project anymore. Sunny knew that Karisma, a top heroine, walking out would affect the film as star power made a difference at the box office. Karisma was adamant despite the requests to consider her decision, and Sunny’s worst fears came true when the film earned critical acclaim but bombed at the BO. Sunny never directed again.”
A decade later, the tides have turned in Sunny’s favour as he has revived his production house, while Lolo is keen to make a strong impact in her second innings. But when Lolo wanted to be a part of Ghayal 2, it was Sunny’s turn to say no.
“This time Sunny said no to Lolo and signed Vidya Balan instead. She is among the current top actors and today Sunny can pick and choose, as Karisma did last time,” the source added.
Lolo, on the other hand, is making her comeback in a Vikram Bhatt film that touches upon the topic of past life regression.
