Here is the scene: Hero is with a woman in a dingy hotel. Then, without warning, the police arrive. The cops accuse him of indulging in prostitution. The hero is arrested and booked. Hero calls it a conspiracy, professional jealousy; says he is from a respectable family.

This script could have been from any bad movie that Sandalwood dishes out, except, in this case, it is for real.

In a script that went horribly wrong, a Kannada movie actor, his aide and 14 others were nabbed for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a hotel in Mysore on Thursday.

The actor, Raghuveer, who made his debut with Chaitrada Premanjali in 1990, was nabbed along with his friend Shankar and their driver Ramamurthy. The raid was conducted in the wee hours of Thursday, following a tip off on Wednesday night, police claimed.

An FIR drawn by the police of Mysore city stated that Raghuveer was found in a room with a woman, while his friend, Shankar, was with another woman in the adjacent room. Raghuveer had booked two rooms — 105 and 106 — in Hotel Abhishek which is located on the Bangalore-Nilgiris Road near the suburban bus station in Mysore, police claimed.

The FIR stated that it was Ramamurthy who had arranged for the girls on Wednesday night. The three — Raghuveer, Shankar and Ramamurthy — were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday, and were let off on bail on Friday. All of them were booked under sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956.

Reacting to the allegations, Raghuveer said it was a conspiracy hatched by one of his friends to tarnish his image and embarrass him.

“I come from a good family. Someone has conspired against me. I will let you know the person behind all this. I am married and come from a respectable family background,” the actor said.

The two women, who were caught with the three, were sent to Shakti Dhama, a rehabilitation centre near the Chamundi Hills.
