Producer of Italian band SHAMUR, Alessandro Murru, tells CHHAYA TOSHNIWAL that he blends European style with Indian music for his compositions

Shamur, a music group formed by Italian producers, Emanuele Marascia and Alessandro Murru, is quite a hit everywhere including India.

Their foot-tapping number Let The Music Play is still being played in almost all the night clubs in the country.

On the eve of World Music Day, Murru was here in India to promote their new album Shardana. “Shamur is a hit in Italy, Dubai, Israel, India, Greece and Turkey,” he says.

Along with him, Teresa Solinas a.k.a. Terry, who has delivered the female lead vocals for the album, is here.

Apart from being producers of Shamur, Marascia and Murru also have a hold in the music industry as individual brands. They are into DJ-ing and RJ-ing individually.

This was Murru’s first visit to India and he confesses about his love for the Indian culture. “I love the Hindi bhangra beats. It blends well with hip-hop. I like mixing the European style with a little spice from India,” says the Italian who’s a fan of India.

The producer also reveals that this trip to India is very “emotional” for him.

While we wonder why, he adds, “I like Indians. There is so much depth in their eyes. They convey messages even without opening their mouth. It’s nice to watch people here because the life that people lead here is very different from what we lead there. Also, this is very important for me because this’ll help me in composing my music and lyrics.”

Murru is friends with a Punjabi in Italy who helped him compose music for their album. No wonder, then, that the album has a lot of Punjabi mix included in their composition.

He also watches Indian music channels to keep a track of the new music releases in India.

Apart from the group’s music being inspired by Indian culture, Murru says, “I use a lot of Indian instruments like the electronic tabla and the electronic percussions in my compositions. I like the Indian touch to my compositions.”

Terry also seems to be mesmerised by India. She says, “I like Indian colours, the way people keep smiling here all the time, it’s beautiful.”
While they are in Mumbai for a short while, Alessandro in particular wants to visit the museum and the sea shore while Terry is quite excited about seeing the local trains at CST. Seems like, this is a completely new world for others who don’t reside here.
