Having brought a number of top international luxury names to India, Priya Sachdev has inadvertently influenced the fashion in the country. The entrepreneur whose lifestyle store has 12 of the best fashion brands in the country including Stella McCartney, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Rag & Bone is planning to expand, with stores in Hyderabad and Chennai by the year end. “I am quite picky and choosy about what we retail. I want to work with only the best, the most successful and spoken about labels. The ones that I feel can complement the Indian consumer,” Priya says.

Commenting on the current economic situation, she feels that people are not so conservative in their spending. “Indians have evolved so much, they’re aware that costs have gone up globally. When they want something for a special occasion, they don’t think twice about the price,” she asserts. Having travelled across the world, the former model feels that New York and Paris, still stand out as being the fashion capitals of the world. While NY boasts of a huge industry with many buyers flocking for fashion week, Paris is home to some iconic fashion houses. “India too is slowly establishing itself as a fashion capital. More designers are coming to the forefront and retailers from across the globe are interested. It’s good for the economy,” she adds.

Priya also feels that there are many promising designers in the country such as Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna and Rohit Bal who’ve pushed boundaries in terms of their creativity. “Sabyasachi has a very unique style, his clothes are simply gorgeous and something that every woman can wear. Anamika spells great craftsmanship, while Rohit is couture for me. His vision, talent and vast experience shines in his collections,” she says. Quiz Priya about the best-dressed men in the country and the Big B tops her list. She says his classic yet timeless sense of style makes him a winner. Also on her list is actor Arjun Rampal who she feels knows exactly what looks good on him. “It is a symbiotic relationship between Bollywood and Fashion weeks. It brings the actors/stars and designers in the forefront of the news. So it works out perfect for both the star and for the designer,” explains Priya, who sees a huge potential for luxury fashion brands in the future.
