UPSC success story: Becoming a civil servant such as IAS, IPS and IFS is a dream for many. Lakhs of UPSC aspirants apply for the civil services exam every year, but only hundreds of them can fulfil their dreams. However, there are many examples of IAS and IPS officers who quit their prestigious jobs to open their own businesses, companies etc. One such person is Rajan Singh, an ex-IPS officer who chose different paths after serving as IPS for 8 years.

Rajan Singh is a former Kerala IPS officer of 1997 batch. After completing his engineering degree from Kanpur IIT in 1995, Singh started preparation for UPSC. He cracked the exam and became an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He hails from Uttar Pradesh and within just six months in the field, Singh was appointed as the police commissioner in Thiruvananthapuram. Singh's wife Tinku Biswal is an IAS officer of the Kerala cadre.

After serving for eight years, Singh decided to quit service in 2005 to pursue a business degree at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Later, he also worked with the global management firm Mckinsey and Company in New York for two years.

In 2012, he founded Course Brew, an innovative online learning platform providing interactive video-based learning. He founded his next venture, ConceptOwl, in 2015. It focused on science and math learning programs for small-town students. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic inspired Rajan Singh to create Habit Strong, a habit-based learning platform. The platform has merged with ConceptOwl and is poised for even greater success in the coming years.
