This year's World Book Fair was presented with a theme that it caters to people from every section of society. For the same reason, the theme stall was dedicated to the specially-abled readers and especially the ones with difficulty in viewing.

For the readers with visual difficulties, the stall was equipped with about 250 braille books. However, DNA found that the stall has been receiving mixed response as many readers who visited the stall had some complaints about it.

Speaking to DNA, Udit Mahajan, who had come from Dwarka to inquire about the books, said, "I had travelled from Dwarka hoping that I could buy some books to read. But the books kept here are not for sale. So, it was disappointing to return empty handed."

However, the stall in-charge informed that the books are available for sale on the website of NBT (National Book Trust). So, the readers can avail home delivery of these books. But the website has not been friendly enough to the visually-impaired and that makes it difficult for the readers to purchase the books.

Meanwhile, several readers also found the initiative to be good as the braille books are heavy and bulky, which make them difficult to be carried. So, the home delivery option becomes an advantage for the readers as they do not need to carry these books.

"For readers like us who had travelled hundreds of kilometers to attend the World Book Fair, it would have been very difficult to carry the books with us. So, for us it is good that NBT will make home delivery of these books," said Paramjeet Kaur, Prinicpal, Government School for Blind, Ludhiana.

My office will be help me purchase the books online. However, I feel it is good that we do not have to carry the heavy books from here.

I did not find the stall to be of use. The content is not updated and the books are still very heavy. The NBT could have worked on reducing the weight of the books. Moreover, the not-for-sale clause is a disappointment.
