Who is Anshu Prakash

An alumnus of Delhi University's St Stephen's College, Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash also has an MBA degree from DU's Faculty of Management Studies. An Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1986 batch of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, he has previously served as the Additional Secretary and financial adviser to the Ministry of Rural Development.

He has also worked as the Principal Secretary (health) in the Delhi government. He has been the chairperson and managing director of the Delhi Transport Corporation and has also been with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council.

On December 1, 2017, he was appointed the Chief Secretary of Delhi by the BJP-led government at the Centre. Immediately after his appointment, Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party government alleged that it was not consulted before the decision. Two months into the service, he had rounds of confrontation with the Arvind Kejriwal government on several issues. He recently wrote to all bureaucrats stating that an order to be issued in pursuance of the decision taken by the AAP government in the name of the Lieutenant-Governor will have to be approved by the officer concerned. Now, he again finds himself at loggerheads with the state government.
