A day after four criminals were shot dead in the Chandan Hula area of Chhatarpur in South Delhi, residents of nearby villages suspect many anti-social activities take place in the farmhouses in the area while some also claim that these farmhouses are becoming a hideout or a shelter for upcoming criminals.

According to the residents, the area is full of farmhouses and after the incident came to light, they suspect that many farmhouses belong to criminals who after committing an offence come here to hide.

“The area is not patrolled by the police, it is one of the most isolated areas of the city. After the news of the encounter came, we got to know that the criminals were visiting a farmhouse which means either they owned one or they knew the owner,” said Vikas Shukla, a resident of Nanda in Chhatarpur.

The residents added that the place is not just a hub for criminals, it has also become a hub for anti-social activities. “Every day there is a party of a function happening at one farm or the other. We have heard about prostitution and rave parties happening in most of the farmhouses but there is no one to listen to us. The police should verify the identities and backgrounds of owners, staff, and people visiting the farmhouses and if they have any link to criminals. Most of the owners have given the farms to caretakers and even they might be a part of this syndicate,” said Arish, a tea seller at Chandan Hula village.

Residents and locals residing in the Fatehpur Beri area where the encounter took place are still in a state of shock and fear stepping out of the house.

“After Saturday, I fear that an encounter can happen anytime in this area. Eight police officials were injured so even we can be the victim of those bullets. I have got two children who travel from that same path but now I fear to send them out,” said Mohammad Hussain, another resident of Fatehpur Beri.
