On September 4, a 16-year-old boy was lynched by six persons in north-west Delhi's Mukundpur in the early hours of September 5 on the mere suspicion that he had allegedly entered their house committed theft. All the six were arrested. But the victim's brother, Md Mushahid Alam, is yet to come to terms with his brother's death. With the fear of being lynched, the 18-year-old shifted to another block in the area and had not visited the old house even once.

On the other hand, the parents are trying to cope with the tragedy. Due to financial constraints, the family couldn't take their son's body to their native place in Bihar. The mother couldn't see her dead son for one last time.

"The incident has left a big impact on Mushahid's mind. He is lost and has not been able to focus on his work. He roams around aimlessly in the locality. I try to keep him busy and take him to the places I visit for work. He is in continuous fear and has stopped talking," said Javed, Mushahid's uncle.

"I belong to a poor family. My father works as a labourer in Noida while my mother and five siblings live in Bihar. Owing to the heavy cost of transportation to carry the body to our village, we had to perform the last rites here. My mother couldn't come to see my brother as she couldn't leave my siblings behind," he said.
