Gripped with the sorrow of having lost 11 members of her family to death, which is still shrouded in mystery, Sujata Nagpal on Tuesday, urged the media to let them mourn in peace. Visibly shaken at the tragedy that has hit headlines across the nation, the daughter of the house had an emotional outburst over "relentless pestering" by the media.

Seated outside the house of her brother, Lalit Chundawa, where the bodies were found hanging, Nagpal was a picture of a broken sister and a dejected daughter. The grief, she said, was too huge to sink in, and the agony had increased manifold with "insensitive" questions posed by journalists who made a beeline in Sant Nagar since Sunday.

Lashing out at a reporter, she burst into tears, "Please leave our family alone. We have not got the time to mourn the loss. I want you to let us grieve in peace. Kindly show some respect to what my family is going through," an emotional Nagpal pleaded.

The family is also having a tough time warding off rumours of occult or a delusional brother as the mainstay of 'mass suicide'. Denying all links with any godman, the next of kin at Burari called it a figment of media's imagination. "News reports have disturbed us. Channels are showing anything and everything. Nobody is checking facts. It is so painful to see my brothers, who are no more, being maligned like this," said Nagpal.

The family is also upset at the "misreporting" by media, right from getting the name of the family wrong. "Reporters who are spreading false facts of tantrik etc, have not been able to get even the family surname right. They are Chundawa, not Bhatia as has been written and shown all across," said a family friend, not wishing to be identified.

While a subtle admission towards suicide too is emerging, Praveen Nagpal, brother-in-law of Chundawat, said, "Let us assume for a moment that this is the truth or that they took their life to attain salvation. It is done now. Why sensationalise it? Why can't people respect the dead?"
