Virat Kohli was bowled by Pakistan's left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi for just 4 runs off 7 balls.
Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir criticized Virat Kohli's shot selection during the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 match in Pallekele on Saturday. Gambhir analyzed Kohli's dismissal in the game and expressed his opinion that Kohli played a poor shot.
Kohli was bowled by Pakistan's left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi for just 4 runs off 7 balls. He hesitantly attempted to play a short delivery outside off stump and unfortunately ended up hitting the ball onto his own stumps.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gambhir raised doubts about Kohli's way of getting out.
"That was a nothing shot, neither forward, neither back. I think was a bit casual. That is what you get when you play someone like Shaheen Afridi. You do not know whether to go forward or back,” he said.
Former Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis, on the other hand, expressed a contrasting perspective, asserting that the Indian batsman had simply been unfortunate.
"Kohli was a touch unlucky. Inside edge, the ball did not come on to the bat and maybe even kept a bit low. But credit to Shaheen Shah Afridi for altering his length," he said.
Before Kohli, Afridi also dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma for 11, cleaning him up with a brute delivery. The skillful left-arm pacer returned later to claim two more crucial wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 4/35 from his 10 overs.
A remarkable partnership of 138 runs for the fifth wicket between Ishan Kishan (82 off 81) and Hardik Pandya (87 off 90) injected much-needed momentum into the Indian innings, propelling them to a competitive total of 266.
The stage was set for an enthralling chase, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Persistent rain prevented Pakistan from even stepping onto the field, forcing the match to be abandoned. Consequently, both teams had to settle for sharing the points.
