With main players of Team India in England for the Test series, many of the Men in Blue players got a chance to prove their mantle in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.

Many young-guns got a chance to worth as they made debut in the Indian colours. However, there were many who had a point to prove, but wasted their chance.

Among them was wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. In one match of the ODI series, Samson scored 46 runs, however, he could merely score 34 runs in all the three T20Is combined.

In the third T20I, Sri Lanka got the visitors to end their batting show in an embarrassing manner. The Indians scored just 81 runs and the entire top and middle-order collapsed courtesy of the Lankan bowling attack led by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Talking about the same, head coach Rahul Dravid, in the post-match presser said Samson would be disappointed looking back at the SL series.

"It was not the easiest pitch to bat on. In ODIs, he got a chance and scored 46. He was batting well in the first T20 but the last couple of wickets (pitches) were challenging. I guess yeah, if you look back at the series, we will be a little disappointed. Having said that not only Sanju but a lot of young guys in this team are talented kids, and we need to be patient with them," said Dravid in defense of Samson.

In fact, after Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19, a total of eight members who were in close contact with him were also kept in isolation. A depleted side had taken the field in the last two T20Is and had tried to be competitive. However, the series was lost 1-2.

Dravid was asked if he is disappointed with how young batters like Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad performed, to which he said, "I am not disappointed as they are young. They are going to learn and get better only when they are exposed to these kind of conditions and quality of bowling. Sri Lankan team’s bowling attack is an international bowling attack".
