Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad fails dope test, could be banned for three months from international cricket

Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad has failed a dope test according to reports on Wednesday. The 26-year-old took the test during the Pakistan cup, the country's domestic five-team ODI tournament held from April 19 to May 1.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi on Wednesday retweeted a tweet that said: "A player has reportedly tested positive for a prohibited substance. But under ICC rules PCB cannot name the player or chargesheet him until the chemical report is CONFIRMED by the Anti-Dope Agency of the government. We should have an answer in a day or two."

According to reports, the development was revealed after a meeting between the Pakistan selection committee and head oach Mickey Arthur for the squad selection for the Zimbabwe tour.

Shehzad, who has the option of giving a second sample test, could face a ban of at least three months from international cricket for violating the International Cricket Council's anti-doping laws.

Shehzad played for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Cup. The opener went on to top-score in the tournament as his team won the title. He struck a century and three half-centuries and scored 372 runs at an average of 74.40.
