Chennai Super Kings' openers piled on runs on a good Wankhede wicket as their 115-run stand was crucial to them scoring 220 runs in their 20 overs against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Match No 15 of the IPL 2021. Faf du Plessis was the star for the Chennai side in their fourth game in the first innings as he played a splendid innings of 95 runs off just 60 balls.

CSK was greatly aided by Ruturaj Gaikwad's comeback into the form. After a string of low scores, Gaikwad came into his own as he brought up his fourth fifty of the league and he was the aggressor between him and Faf du Plessis.

He took his time initially but once he got a boundary, he was up and running and smashed a flurry of boundaries and once he was set, he started dictating the terms. He brought up his fifty in just 32 balls and played an outstanding innings of 64 runs off just 42 balls.

Gaikwad got out but du Plessis continued on his merry run. The incoming batsmen kept chipping in with useful contributions, whether it was Moeen Ali with a 12-ball 25 or skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni with an 8-ball 17 or Ravindra Jadeja hitting a six off the only ball he faced, the run-rate never took a hit whenever CSK lost wickets.

Du Plessis stayed unbeaten on 95 runs, hitting nine fours and four sixes as CSK finished with a monumental score of 220 runs on the board.
