The first of the five-match Test series between England and India at Trent Bridge at Nottingham has ended in a draw because of rain. The unrelenting rains were the highlight of the final day as no play was possible and the game ended with India at 52/1, the overnight score at the stumps on Day 4.

India needed just 157 runs to win the game on the fifth day, with nine wickets in the bag and many reckoned that the visitors were on top and were favourites to win the game had the rain gods been a little more kind.

England, on the back of skipper Joe Root's 21st Test century, were able to get a lead of more than 200 runs in the second innings and present a respectable challenge to the Indian team to chase a score of 209 runs in the final innings on a pitch, on which the ball was seaming and moving throughout.

However, Indian openers were up to the challenge and produced a fine batting display in the final hour where the dark clouds were hovering and the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad were moving the ball country mile. KL Rahul after a few good shots got out to Broad, on a similar delivery in the channel of uncertainty outside the off-stump after scoring 26 runs, following his knock of 84 runs in the first innings.

The game was set up for the visitors by the pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah taking 9/110 in the two innings and scoring a crucial 28 runs with the bat to help his side get a lead of 95 runs in the first innings. Bumrah's spell of 4/46 in the first innings with support from Mohammed Shami's three-wicket haul and Shardul Thakur's two wickets were the mainstay for Team India in bowling England out for 183.

KL Rahul's 84, Ravindra Jadeja's 56 and crucial contributions from Indian pacers helped India get to 278 and impose themselves in the Test match, but rain marred it all.

The users on Twitter suggested that India were on top in the game and rain helped England get away with one. Most of the users were disappointed with the English weather forcing another Test match to end in a draw because of unrelenting heavy rains. Here are some of the reactions:
