The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly in continuous contact with the cricket boards from England, South Africa, Australia, etc over the possible future of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The rapid spread of Coronavirus worldwide has started seeing its serious impacts. India has imposed a 21-day lockdown till April 14 to combat the spread of novel coronavirus.

Last month, BCCI decided to suspend IPL 2020 till April 15, 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in India.

"While various options have been discussed like a closed-door tournament, or a curtailed one, it is almost clear that everyone wants foreign players to be a part of the IPL and that is one of the major highlights of the tournament," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by IANS.

The virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the governments all around are urging people to stay at home.

"So, we have been constantly updating the boards of the situation here and the directives that are being issued by the health department as well as the government in the fight against coronavirus," the official further claimed.

"In fact, it is a two-way process as international border lockdown is also an aspect that needs to be kept in mind because at the end of the day whenever the IPL does happen, the foreign players need to fly in."

The opening match of this year's IPL was supposed to be played between the most successful teams of IPL - defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) - at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29.

The country's cricketing body previously had claimed that no final decision has been made on the fate as the board is still monitoring the situation.

On March 23, reports suggested that BCCI is also considering to further delay the league.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 2902 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 68 fatalities have been reported.
