Team India skipper Virat Kohli and wife and actor-producer Anushka Sharma have come forward and helped a family raise funds for the most expensive drug in the world for their child. The child, Ayaansh Gupta is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

SMA is a neurological condition in which a person cannot control the movement of their muscles due to a loss of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain stem. SMA causes muscle wasting and weakness. To treat that, the parents Rupal and Yogesh Gupta have been constantly asking for money for the drug named Zolgensma, which costs a whopping Rs 16 crore.

#SaveAyaanshGupta was used to raise funds and many Bollywood stars from Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan, Dia Mirza to Rajkummar Rao and Arjun Kapoor came forward to help the parents. Emraan Hashmi even recorded a video to urge fans to help raise funds.

The parents thanked everyone and especially Anushka and Virat to help them procure the funds for such an expensive drug. From the Twitter handle, Ayaansh fights SMA, the parents wrote, "@imVkohli & @AnushkaSharma - we always loved you as fans. But what you have done for Ayaansh and this campaign is beyond what we expected. Thanks for your generosity. You helped us win this match of life with a six! Will always be indebted for your help to #saveayaanshgupta."

The news of this comes shortly after the couple helped raise funds for oxygen concentrators in association with Ketto and were able to raise more than Rs 11 crore. Kohli, recently also contributed Rs 6.77 lakh to help a former women's cricketer's ailing mother in her fight with COVID-19.
