Shopkeepers selling cellphones, televisions and other electronic goods want ‘One Country – One Price’ policy in the country. They say that predatory pricing by e-commerce companies has reduced their business by about 50 per cent and there is no level playing field between e-commerce giants and traditional neighbourhood shops. If such practices of e-commerce companies do not stop, offline shops will struggle to survive.

A meeting of Federation of IT Associations of Gujarat (FITAG) was held recently at Anand in which dealers from across the state said that rising sales through e-commerce market places has significantly dented their sales.

Kishor Nagecha, president of Ahmedabad Computer Merchants Association (ACMA) said that traditional shopkeepers cannot compete against predatory pricing by e-commerce companies and the only way to survive is to ensure that whatever is the mode of sale, the price of the product should be uniform across the country.

“If we can have One Country – One Tax, why not One Country – One Price? We will present this idea during the meeting of Federation of All India IT Associations (FAIITA) in Mumbai on November 21-22. We have also drafted a memorandum in this regard,” Nagecha told DNA.
