With an opening of  Rs 51.60 crore in Hindi alone, (53.35 including Tamil and Telugu) War, starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff has beat Thugs of Hindostan (TOH), which garnered Rs 50 cr in Hindi (52.25 adding Tamil and Telugu) on the first day. That apart, the actioner that released on October 2,  has the biggest all-time holiday opening.

“It was expected, it’s not a surprise at all. The trailer had given a glimpse of the action sequences and the mood was set. It would have been the highest if not one of the highest with Hrithik and Tiger, two action heroes in it and it has outdone TOH,” says trade pundit Komal Nahta.

Leading film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi says that it’s good to see a film with two true blue stars like Hrithik and Tiger, who have their own legitimate fan following do such terrific business. “Honestly, after the mid-90s, the industry needed a genuine multi-starrer, and I don’t mean a Salman Khan and another actor who doesn’t have a draw of his own. Hrithik and Tiger coming together has increased the intrinsic value of the film. In Hindi, it has made approximately Rs 51 crore and if you add Telugu and Tamil collections, it’s Rs 53 crore.”

Komal is sure that the action-entertainer will continue to garner good numbers. “It’s not a soda water bottle as they say in filmi parlance. There is no big release till Housefull 4, which will hit theatres on the 25th, so for 24 days, War will have a golden run,” he adds.

Akshaye, too, sees it doing phenomenally well in the coming weeks.

“Yesterday on a week day it did Rs 18-19 crore, which is good. The weekend will see an increase in the numbers. There is no big ticket release next week and Dusshera  will give it a spike,” he points out.

It is also the highest opener for Hrithik and Tiger individually. “Hrithik has never had a Rs 200 crore film and this will easily reach up to the mark of Rs 250 crore. Both, Hrithik and Tiger, have been appreciated for their performances. After Super 30, which had him in a completely different role, Hrithik looks like an international A-List hero in War. As for Tiger, he has never looked or performed the way he has in this film. People are waking up to the fact that Tiger is not just action, dance and body, but he can also deliver,” Komal says.
