“Bharadwaj was planning to file a case against his superiors”

BANGALORE: Mystery shrouds the death of a Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) inspector whose body was on Friday found in an open drain near the KSRP parade ground in Koramangala.

L Bharadwaj (49) was found dead by police in a drain in front of the KSRP quarters. His family alleged he might have been murdered by his higher ups against whom he was planning to file a case for not giving him money for buying medicines for his son who had epileptic seizures.

“He even planned to take them to court,” said one of the family members, who did not want to be identified.

Bharadwaj, a native of Chikkbalapur, was staying with his wife and two sons at the KSRP quarters in Koramangala.

According to the family, he took his youngest son Vidyadharan going to hospital on his motorcycle on Wednesday morning. The son was carrying a bag containing Rs15,000 but lost it after a sudden seizure.

Later, after the two returned home, Bharadwaj asked his eldest son, Govardhan, to accompany Vidyadharan to the police station to file a case on the lost bag.

Assuring the family that he will join them shortly, he went out but never come back. On Friday morning a constable found the body in the drain, police said.

Bharadwaj was on leave since September 5, for his son’s treatment.

“What will we do now? He was the only earning member of the family. Though he had high blood pressure, we don’t think he would faint and fall to death (as presumed by the police),” Govardhan said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Southeast), Soumendu Mukherji, said Bharadwaj, who was suffering chest problem had been on an evening walk. “We feel he might have collapsed and fallen into the drain and fatally injured his head,” he said.

His family and colleagues, however, denied he was suffering from chest problem.
