DK Shivakumar demands CBI probe into Iskcon

Congress leader DK Shivakumar demanded the state government to order CBI probe into the alleged irregularities committed by International Society for Krishna Conciousness (Iskcon) in implementing its midday meal scheme ‘Akshaya Patra’.

“My allegations against Iskcon are 100% true. BJP MLA Yogish Bhat has also affirmed some of the irregularities. But it has given a clean chit to Iskcon. It shows the committee members have colluded with the institution. Though I was a member of the committee, it has not considered my point of view. The chairman has submitted the report without consulting the members,” he said.

Shivakumar said the house committee itself had admitted collecting crores of rupees from abroad showing pictures and videos of poor children in a shameful manner. He demanded that the state government should arrest Iskcon’s governing body commissioners. He alleged that the Iskcon had also encroached upon 61 acres of government land in Mahadevapura in Mandya district.

Though revenue officials have submitted a report, the state had not initiated any action against the institution. He urged the state to take back that land, and book a case against the representatives of Iskcon.
