Everybody (on Facebook) is talking about the Sabarmati riverfront and its beauty. The country’s first riverfront project is attracting millions across the world on the social media, thanks to the photography competition organised by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

With more than 1,200 entries posted on the special page created for this competition, it is receiving an overwhelming
response from both amateur and professional photographers.

The special page ‘Sabarmati Riverfront Photography Competition’ has received around 3,800 likes with more than 3,900 people talking about it on Facebook. “Also, our total reach through Facebook has crossed two lakh, with more than two lakh people having visited the page or having seen, liked and shared the photographs of the riverfront posted on the wall,” stated an official of AMC, who is coordinating the competition.

Not only the page, but the interesting photos by the lensmen are receiving lots of likes and shares. One such interesting photograph is by Dr Jyotik Bhachech, a city-based psychiatrist, whose photo has already received 200 shares and 34 likes in just one day.

Dr Bhachech said, “I didn’t expect to get such a good response. I’m not into professional photography and did not think of the competition and gaining maximum shares while clicking this photograph.” The photograph shows a security guard patrolling the riverfront in the early hours.

Dr Bhachech said he wanted to convey a message through the photograph. “Generally, riverfront is considered a public space during evening hours. But through this photo I wanted to show how soothing and peaceful it is during the early morning.”

Surprisingly, in just four hours after posting his click, Vivek Pabla gained more than 230 shares and 38 likes. However, Pabla was not available for comment.

When asked to comment on the overwhelming response, executive director of Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), Capt Dilip Mahajan said, “We are receiving good response from the artists for the competition. In all, more than 1200 pictures have been posted on the wall of the special page.”

Talking about the results, he said that names of the winners of the second and third week will be announced by Friday.

The aim of the contest is to popularise the riverfront on the social media. The photograph which receives maximum likes and shares on Facebook will be the winner. Apart from having one winner at the end of the year, there are categories like weekly winner and monthly winner too.
