Days after incessant rain, the weather department in its prediction on Tuesday said the northern districts of the state are likely to receive heavy rains till Thursday. The rainfall bearing system is also likely to bring heavy rains in Kutch on Friday. Although the widespread rains are predicted across the state, heavy showers lashed many parts of the state already, including 166 talukas on Tuesday.
"Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places heavy falls in the districts of North Gujarat districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha and Aravalli. Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli and Bhavnagar," said a forecast up to the morning of Thursday of India Meteorological Department (IMD).
For the next day, heavy rains are very likely in the districts of North Gujarat, while heavy to very heavy rains likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra and Kutch, it added. Heavy rains are likely to remain restricted to Kutch on Friday.
According to a report of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 166 talukas recorded rains till 8:00 pm on Tuesday. Chotta Udepur, Jetpur Pavi and Quant talukas of Chhota Udepur district recorded 177 mm, 162 mm and 159 mm rains respectively, followed by Halol (158 mm), Anand (93 mm) and Jambughoda (72 mm).
Till Tuesday morning, Gujarat had received 741.92 mm rains, which is 90.92 per cent of a 30-year average of 816 mm rain. The state had received an average of 11 mm rain in the past 24 hours ending 8:00 am on Tuesday, according to a data of SEOC.
According to a data of Narmada Water Resources and Water Supply department of the state government, put together all 205 dams have storage of 19,228.63 million cubic metres of water, which is 76.23 per cent of their total storage capacity of 25,224.16 million cubic metres.
Sardar Sarovar Dam, the most important dam has storage of 7,963.80 mcm of water or 84.18 per cent of it total storage capacity of 9,460 mcm of water. Water storage in the dam is up to 133.88 metres. It is receiving an inflow of over 4.72 lakh cusecs and is witnessing an overflow of about 3.99 lakh cusecs of water.
The water level is at a higher level of 336.66 feet against a rule level of 335 feet. It has recorded an inflow of over 1.75 lakh cusecs of water and has an outflow of over 1.11 lakh cusecs of water.
Ahmedabad city also recorded over 15 mm rain on Tuesday. With this, its seasonal total has risen to 535.85 mm, according to a report of AMC.
