Tribals in Narmada district, on Monday, gathered at Rajpipla and opposed government projects like setting up of 'Bhavans' of various states as well as an airport. They claim that these projects violate the rights of tribals by depriving them of their land and livelihood as well as guarantees enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Over 1,500 tribals from surrounding localities gathered at Rajpipla for a public meeting which aimed at opposing upcoming projects in the region and in the vicinity of Statue of Unity. These include setting up of 'Bhavans' by another state as well as an airport at Rajpipla. "These are coming up over the land of tribals. No Constitutional or legal provisions are being adhered to in these government projects, which are coming up against the will of local tribals.

Thousands of acre of land is being acquired in this tribal areas," said Naushad Solanki, a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Dasada constituency in the state.

Amarsinh Z Chaudhary, president of 'Adivasi Samanvay Manch – Bharat', a multi-state forum to represent issues said that permission of Gram Sabha is needed before acquiring land, which is not taken for these projects. Tribals are merely informed about the projects coming up.

"Tribals have not received compensation for projects dating to 1980s and earlier. Unutilized land should be returned to farmers. Tribals are the main losers of dams. Now the government is displacing living human beings for the sake of a statue," he said.

Farmers have already lost their land in various dams, as well as projects like Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), Bullet Train and Express Highway.

The additional acquisition of land will deprive tribals of land and livelihood, leading to the impoverishment of tribals, said leaders. They claim that tribal have not

yet received compensation under Sardar Sarovar Dam project.
