OnePlus has finally unveiled its latest new smartphone to the world - the OnePlus 6T.

The launch took place in New York on Monday, with the Chinese company detailing the upgrades they've added to the OnePlus 6 model they'd launched in May this year.

There probably aren't enough add-ons for someone who already owns a OnePlus 6, but there are surely plenty of great new features in the 6T for the rest of the market.

Here are the top seven takeaways from the OnePlus 6T

1. The Notch

'Notch' has inarguably been the word of the year as far as smartphones are concerned. This little feature at the top of almost every flagship smartphone in 2018 has been the center of every debate. Just weeks after we witnessed what many consider the ugliest notch in any phone - the Google Pixel 3 XL notch - we have been introduced to the OnePlus 6T 'teardrop notch'. Well, it's not really an introduction as companies like Oppo (OnePlus' parent company) and Vivo have already launched phones earlier with a similarly tiny, triangular notch. But the one on the 6T definitely looks better than the one on its predecessor. It does pretty much all the functions that the earlier one did, except for the LED blink notification.

2. In-display fingerprint scanner

This is, perhaps, one feature that people have been most excited for. The OnePlus 6T isn't the first phone to have an in-display fingerprint scanner, but fans were hopeful it'll pull-off a better implementation of the slick technology. The 6T does have a fast fingerprint reader to unlock the phone, but it isn't as fast as one would expect. It isn't slow per se, but it definitely isn't as fast as the scanner on the back that the OnePlus 6 supports.

3. Bigger battery

The OnePlus 6T has a significantly bigger battery than the OnePlus 6. We've gone from 3300 mAh on the OP 6 to 3700 mAh on the OP 6T. This is surely good news for consumers as we're now looking at about five hours of screen on-time with some battery life still left. With almost every other flagship phone nearing the 4000 mAh mark, this is surely a smart upgrade from OnePlus.

4. RIP headphone jack

One of the biggest reasons why the OnePlus 6 has been a major success this year, apart from the competitive pricing, of course, is its offering of the headphone jack. Pretty much no other flagship phone offers one now, and sadly, the OnePlus 6T has joined that list. The phone comes with a USB cable in the box, saying goodbye to the beloved headphone jack. The company has cited the in-display fingerprint scanner and the larger battery as the reasons for ditching the jack. They also said that a survey done by them suggested that the majority of their consumers prefer using wireless headphones. Will this prove to backfire for OnePlus? Time will tell.

5. Bigger display and storage

One important upgrade in the OnePlus 6T is its larger display and storage size. The phone comes with a 6.41-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels ) AMOLED display, with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The OnePlus 6, of course, came with a smaller 6.28-inch screen. The storage has gone up as well. The 6T starts at 128GB with 6GB RAM (for the same price that OnePlus 6 had at its launch) and goes up till 256 GB storage with 8 gigs of RAM.

6. Better camera?

The OnePlus 6T has the same hardware, sensors, and lense in the camera as the OnePlus 6. However, it will have a 'night mode' which will allow brighter shots in poorly lit spaces. Also, OnePlus promises to improve on HDR techniques with upcoming software updates. This will allow you to take much better photographs. But the catch is that these software updates will be available on the OnePlus 6 as well. So it isn't really an upgrade for the 6T camera specifically.

7. Same colours

People excited after the 'colourful' launch of the iPhone XR shouldn't expect the same from the OnePlus 6T. Unlike the XR, which will come in six different colours, the 6T will sport the same shades as its predecessor did. The OnePlus 6T will come in Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants. There's a possibility of it sporting all-white and all-red looks in the future.

Here's the complete specifications sheet of the OnePlus 6T
