Indian shuttler P. V Sindhu knocked out 25-year-old Tai Tzu Ying in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Badminton Championships 2019 on Friday in Switzerland.
This was a massive upset for the current world number two from Chinese Taipei.
After a rough start to the match, P. V Sindhu brought it back on the day to 12-21, 23-21, 21-19 and secured her spot in the Semis of World Championships.
The is the second consecutive win for Sindhu against Tai Tzu Ying and prior to this, the 24-year-old Indian had a string of 6 consecutive losses against her.
Last year in December, Sindhu defeated the-then World number one ranked Tai at the BWF World Tour Finals.
After eight months, the Rio silver medalist from the Rio Olympic met the Chinese Taipei shuttler again at the World Championships in Basel, in the women’s singles quarterfinals.
In the men's division, this year's Swiss Open finalist Sai Praneeth hopes to secure his semifinal spot as he goes up against Indonesian shuttler Jonatan Christie.
